Perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA) negatively impact the health and well-being of mothers and babies, and disrupt maternal /infant bonding [1]. Recent studies highlighted the significant association between PNDA and adverse outcomes, including suicidal behaviors and self-harm thoughts during and after pregnancy. Roddy Mitchell et al [2] emphasized the increased risk of preterm birth, stillbirth, and suicide associated with PNDA.

Infant sleep problems further contribute to significant maternal sleep issues [30-32] and maternal mental health consequences, regardless of the mothers’ depression history [32-34]. Mothers who report poor infant sleep behavior have significantly more depressive symptoms than mothers who report good infant sleep [35-37]. There is some evidence that maternal sleep quality is a mediator of this relationship [35].

The first infant was enrolled into the OBOE study in August 2020, and the OBOE study began developing the consenter video a year later to assist with the slower-than-anticipated enrollment and to enhance participant diversity. The consenter tool is a patient-centered, interactive digital tool for informing prospective participants about clinical research studies and enhancing informed consent processes [21,22].

The Insight Center Family Needs calculator estimated the minimum income required to live in San Francisco in 2021 without public or private assistance as US $60,232 for a single adult, US $120,519 for a single adult with 1 preschooler, and US $167,432 for a household with 2 adults, 1 infant, and 1 preschooler [26]. To meet the needs of a family of three, Black and Pacific Islander households would have needed to earn 4 and 2 times their current average incomes, respectively.
