Nearly 10% of newborns and 80% of infants weighing less than 1500 g require resuscitation at birth, and the quality of care provided during the first minute of life is directly related to the prognosis [1-3]. Theoretical knowledge based on current recommendations and practical training are key for ensuring optimal neonatal resuscitation. Anesthesia and intensive care physicians may need to intervene when a pediatrician is not immediately available, for instance, to assist with intubation.

The app operates on low-cost Android tablets or mobile phones at the hospital bedside and is used by health care professionals to support their care and treatment of small and sick newborns in 3 hospitals in Malawi and Zimbabwe. It aims to increase the performance of the health care professionals, and as a result enhance quality of care, by creating a platform to improve supervision, support, and motivation.
