Many neonatal intensive care units monitor withdrawal symptoms using the Neonatal Narcotic Abstinence Scoring System, also called the Finnegan score (FS), which is composed of 32 clinical signs, each scored between 0 and 5 (maximum score 46) [11]. The FS was originally designed to assess withdrawal in otherwise healthy-term infants from mothers abusing opioids [11,12].
