Understanding Parents’ Experiences When Caring for a Child With Functional Constipation: Interpretive Description Study

Constipation among children is common and often mistaken for a mundane nuisance rather than a serious medical condition. More than 95% of pediatric constipation cases are attributed to functional constipation (FC), which occurs without a particular medical, genetic, anatomic, or physiologic cause. Estimates are that at least 1 in 10 children worldwide is affected by pediatric FC [1,2].
