Pub Med, CINAHL, Ovid, and MEDLINE were searched with dates restricted from 2015 to 2024: (m Health OR ecological momentary OR real-time OR mobile health technology OR digital health OR telemedicine OR text messaging OR mobile) AND (counseling OR behavioral OR psychosocial OR therapy) AND (opioid use disorder OR opioid use disorder treatment OR methadone OR buprenorphine OR naltrexone). The search term list was compiled by study team members (KA and MS).

Individuals with psychiatric disorders (eg, schizophrenia) [24] have demonstrated engagement with m Health interventions focused on mental health [25-27]. However, engagement rates are highly variable and may decline over time for m Health interventions delivered for weeks to months [24,25,28]. Additionally, individual demographic characteristics and illness severity may be associated with varying levels of engagement with an m Health intervention [24,27].

Mobile health (m Health) apps and web app technologies are used in various settings such as disease management, medication reminders, and rehabilitation to promote and support a healthy lifestyle [13]. Several m Health apps focused on breastfeeding already exist, which have shown to improve breastfeeding knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy [14-16]. However, mothers with infants admitted to a NICU require special tools and approaches from an app during lactation due to their unique situation.
