Women with severe mental disorders also have increased risks of pre-eclampsia, antepartum and postpartum hemorrhage, placental abruption, impaired intrauterine growth, abortion, and cesarean section, and stillbirths are associated with antepartum and postpartum depression and anxiety [14-19]. Severe mental disorders result in suicide, a leading cause of maternal death in pregnancy and the postpartum period, which contributes to maternal mortality and low quality of life [1,20,21].

Features were classified into antepartum and intrapartum variables. Two different prediction models were constructed: (1) an antenatal-only model intended to be used in the clinic setting to inform appropriate patient referral and (2) an intrapartum model that included both antepartum and intrapartum characteristics. Individual antepartum and intrapartum maternal variables included for model development are shown in the Multimedia Appendix 1.
Separate models were constructed to predict 2 target outcomes.
