Distracting Through Procedural Pain and Distress Using Virtual Reality and Guided Imagery in Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Patients: Randomized Controlled Trial

It suppresses the highly salient sensations of pain and anxiety by consciously shifting attention to a more pleasant activity or thought. Guided imagery (GI) is a powerful nonimmersive distraction that involves describing in detail a situation incompatible with the experience of pain and is meant to evoke feelings of calm.
