The COVID-19 pandemic has caused profound changes in health care–seeking behavior globally, especially within primary general practitioner (GP) care settings, where a significant decline in use was observed following the outbreak of the pandemic [1-5]. This decline in GP health care visits was shown to be driven by factors such as lockdown measures and heightened fears of viral transmission [1].

CM is an academic GP registrar, NL is a research fellow, and KS is a research assistant. All are female and are affiliated with the University of Melbourne. NL acted in a liaison role for practices during the trial. An interview guide (Multimedia Appendix 2) was developed to focus on questions regarding the clinical usefulness of the recommendations, impact on clinical workflows, and perceived change in clinical performance.

The Primary Care Environment and Health (PCEH; SPES in French for Soins Primaires Environnement et Santé) course was designed to train GP residents from the Montpelier-Nimes Faculty of Medicine in EH and, for this first year, teachers from the faculty’s Department of General Practice.

Moreover, this type of service has enabled Dutch GPs to continually provide dermatology care to patients while minimizing the number of (unnecessary) conventional face-to-face consultations (in dermatology or GP practice) and the risk of exposure to SARS-Co V-2.
The Netherlands is one of the few countries where an integrated remote digital dermatology service in GP care has been operating, integrated, and fully reimbursed since 2006 [12].

Patients can use Homelab to order diagnostic tests online without going to the GP for a diagnostic test referral. After ordering a test on Homelab, the patient’s GP needs to authorize the ordered test; this way, GPs can monitor what is being ordered. Authorizing the ordered tests ensures that the tests are reimbursed health care. A consultation is scheduled when a diagnostic test result is abnormal or a disease or a condition is present. Both the patient and the GP can view the test result online.

To Refer or Not to Refer in Teledermoscopy: Retrospective Study
In addition, these previous TDsc studies were often carried out in a study setting where the feasibility of TDsc was examined with a simulated TDsc service that was not yet integrated into GP daily practice. Furthermore, in some of these TDsc studies, the GP did not act as a gatekeeper, the referral decision was made by a (tele)dermatologist and not by a GP, or the photos of the skin lesions were not acquired by the GP themself but, for example, by a trained nurse (also called a melanographer) [6-11].
