The Effectiveness of Interactive Text Messaging and Structured Psychosocial Support Groups on Developmental Milestones of Children From Adolescent Pregnancies in Kenya: Quasi-Experimental Study

The Effectiveness of Interactive Text Messaging and Structured Psychosocial Support Groups on Developmental Milestones of Children From Adolescent Pregnancies in Kenya: Quasi-Experimental Study

Discussion topics were based on the themes addressed by the text messages transmitted that week. Meetings were usually held during weekends, to accommodate adolescent mothers who were in school. The total follow-up period was 9 months; the interventions were conducted from October to December 2019, and the postintervention follow-up was conducted from January to June 2020. A baseline questionnaire was administered, documenting the demographic and contact information of the eligible participants.

Adolescent Levers for a Diet and Physical Activity Intervention Across Socioecological Levels in Kenya, South Africa, Cameroon, and Jamaica: Mixed Methods Study Protocol

Before this, pilot interviews using the qualitative tools were conducted at all sites. In a subset of adolescents (citizen scientists) for the sites that conduct this aspect of the study, daily PA will be measured using small motion sensors known as accelerometers (Actigraph GTX3+ [Acti Graph, LLC] or Axivity [Axivity Ltd] monitors). These devices—all smaller than a matchbox—will be worn on a belt around the waist or on the wrist.

Impacts of a New Supermarket on Dietary Behavior and the Local Foodscape in Kisumu, Kenya: Protocol for a Mixed Methods, Natural Experimental Study

Two study areas were defined: the hypermarket intervention area (ie, Mamboleo, Kisumu) and a comparison area with no hypermarket (ie, Sofia, Homabay). These areas were delineated using existing spatial census data, field visits, and local knowledge of the study investigators. A 2-km radial buffer was drawn around the hypermarket and matched according to population density with a 2-km radial buffer around another landmark in the comparison area.
