A 3-armed randomized controlled trial has been designed to assess the effects of different financial incentive strategies on asthma control medication adherence on a sample of children; the target population consists of children of minority demographics in urban settings with high-risk asthma.

Given that this is a pilot study to assess the feasibility of a text message–based electronic adherence intervention in a vulnerable population, the primary outcomes will be feasibility oriented [23]. Feasibility outcomes will include (1) passive retention through the study and (2) perceived usefulness, acceptability, and preferences regarding the intervention components.
