Pluye and colleagues [17] highlight three ways in which individuals seek health-based information on the internet: professionally mediated (ie, provided by a clinician or librarian), direct access (ie, individual search), and peer mediated (ie, recommendations from family or friends and social media). Respondents in our study arrived at the i Geri Care lessons through all three of these ways and, irrespective of how they arrived at the site, the educational content was highly valued.

This framework was derived from previous research by the authors and combines the information theory and psychosocial theory of behavior.
