To address MNCH disparities among ethnic minority women in remote areas, the “m MOM” project (2013-2016) piloted and evaluated a low-cost mobile health (m Health) intervention in Thai Nguyen province, northern Vietnam. m MOM was developed by the Institute for Population, Health and Development in Hanoi (PHAD) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Vancouver and funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) from Canada.

In Thai Nguyen province, where ethnic minorities constitute 27% of a population of 1.3 million [12] and where the majority live in mountainous and remote areas, the situation is particularly acute.
