For studies 1 and 2, assuming comparisons between two groups of n=100 each and α of .05, a priori sensitivity analyses for 2-tailed independent sample t tests performed in G*Power indicated a power of 0.8 to detect small to medium effect sizes (Cohen d=0.398). A priori power analyses were not performed for study 3, given its exploratory nature.
This study did not involve human subjects research; therefore, no ethical approval was required.

As such, five focus group sessions (n=19) were conducted on the initial prototype with a mix of Black birthing parents (n=3) as well as doulas (n=6), community organization representatives (n=4), and health care providers (n=6) to assess initial impressions of the tool and to validate the concept. A rapid analysis of the focus group sessions was conducted to quickly identify key areas for feedback and revision of the tool [36]. The Emory University Institutional Review Board approved the study.
