Our tracking and retention protocol yielded a retention rate of 97.2% (105/108) across 3 waves of data collection.
Community-informed research was essential to building a project that facilitated a safe and inclusive environment for a population with various gender experiences. These steps were important for collecting sensitive information.

National evidence suggests that as many as 8% of youth in the United States self-identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, or other gender (hereafter, trans) [1] and that trans youth face a health syndemic, in which a set of reinforcing structural, cultural, and behavioral factors place them at a dramatically increased risk for negative physical, social, and mental health outcomes [2-6].
