After intervention implementation, a second randomization will be conducted to test whether the implementation of ongoing QM strategies (MS feedback reports) serves as a sustainment strategy. Our study also contains a qualitative component based on the EPIS framework to further understand the context of implementation and sustainment (sequential explanatory mixed methods) [46].

We analyzed data from the baseline survey of a 4-arm randomized controlled trial of substance using, sexual and gender minority AYA (aged 15-29 years; N=414) that examined the efficacy of a brief substance use intervention for creating gains in engagement in HIV prevention.

We used the core Health Mindr app [25,26] to offer a suite of prevention services, including self-screening for HIV and STI risk; a scheduling and reminder system for routine HIV and STI testing; a Pr EP eligibility screener; a nonoccupational postexposure prophylaxis (n PEP) risk assessment tool; an ordering platform for delivery of at-home HIV- and STI-screening kits and of condoms and lubricants; and service locators for HIV and STI testing, Pr EP, n PEP, and HIV treatment and care.

After the automated authentication checks, a manual review was conducted for participants who flagged for additional review. This manual validation used a checklist (Multimedia Appendix 1), and case report forms were developed to monitor and document the process. A manual review of participants was completed in 1 to 2 business days.

For example, one study showed that more than one-third of a college student sample had seen a picture of a friend smoking cannabis posted on social media [54].
A common feature of social media use among adolescents and emerging adults is the frequent use of more than one platform, which reflects increased smartphone ownership and Wi-Fi access. As of 2018, 95% of teens reported having a smartphone or access to one, of which 45% reported they are on the Web almost constantly [55].

AMSM who do not consent will be taken to a screen thanking them for their interest. AMSM who consent will submit a cell phone number and their cell phone carrier as part of the registration process, an email and/or short message service (SMS) text message containing a code will be immediately sent to verify the user. This process has been found to be acceptable among adolescents [16] and MSM [17,18] in previous studies.

In a study comparing Hispanic college students’ use of IVRS with a Self-Administered Questionnaire (SAQ) and a timeline follow-back (TLFB) over a 3-month interval, Schroeder and colleagues [9] found that participants’ sexual and substance use behaviors were underreported in the TLFB and over-reported in the SAQ when compared with the daily IVRS reporting.
