Effects of Providing Tailored Information About e-Cigarettes in a Web-Based Smoking Cessation Intervention: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Effects of Providing Tailored Information About e-Cigarettes in a Web-Based Smoking Cessation Intervention: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

The items of the questionnaires are based on previous research [27,28] (Elling and de Vries, unpublished data, 2021) and are reported in Multimedia Appendix 1. The pros and cons of quitting smoking (eg, “If I stop smoking, my physical fitness will improve”) will be assessed by 16 items. Social influence will consist of 2 components with 2 items each: social modeling (eg, “Does your partner smoke?”) and social support (eg, “Does your partner support you when you decide to quit smoking?”).

Spoken Animated Self-Management Video Messages Aimed at Improving Physical Activity in People With Type 2 Diabetes: Development and Interview Study

Adapted from De Vries [35]. The I-Change model encompasses 3 phases of the behavior change process: awareness, motivation, and action. It suggests that information factors such as the quality of messages, channels, and sources that are used will determine awareness, motivation, and behavior change, which adds up to the research question.

A Web-Based, Computer-Tailored Intervention to Reduce Alcohol Consumption and Binge Drinking Among Spanish Adolescents: Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial

However, the above definition, which is used in our study, is consistent with the Spanish epidemiological data from the survey Encuesta Sobre Uso de Drogas en Estudiantes de Enseñanzas Secundarias (ESTUDES) [8]. The fact is that BD is associated with detrimental long- and short-term consequences, since it affects neurocognitive development and leads to physical, psychological, and social alterations.

Identifying the Most Autonomy-Supportive Message Frame in Digital Health Communication: A 2x2 Between-Subjects Experiment

Identifying the Most Autonomy-Supportive Message Frame in Digital Health Communication: A 2x2 Between-Subjects Experiment

As a positive motivation to change has been acknowledged by theory (eg, studies by de Vries et al [13] and Ajzen [34]) and evidence (eg, studies by Vangeli et al [35] and Smit et al [36]) to be a necessary prerequisite for actual behavior change, future research efforts might additionally explore the effects of language and especially choice among less motivated individuals.

The Impact of Participant Characteristics on Use and Satisfaction of a Web-Based Computer-Tailored Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Self-Management Intervention: A Process Evaluation

The Impact of Participant Characteristics on Use and Satisfaction of a Web-Based Computer-Tailored Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Self-Management Intervention: A Process Evaluation

These questions were largely based on earlier work of de Vries et al [11]. The 5-point questions assessed appreciation of the website (navigation), the tailored feedback (comprehensibility, novelty, usefulness, and personalization), and the application in general (recommendable to others, intention for future use). The 10-point question assessed overall satisfaction with the tailored feedback (1=very bad to 10=very good).
