Potentially missing asthma diagnoses due to the lack of a CDS tool at the point of care was also identified as a barrier to management.
Missing the possible, not the ones that are established. For the ones you’re considering a new diagnosis. It’s a little bit out of sight out of mind. So people aren’t thinking about [the CDS tool] to administer the survey, and that’s a little bit cumbersome to go and try to find it.

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by constriction of the lower airways, resulting in wheezing, cough, and shortness of breath [1]. Although asthma can be diagnosed with pulmonary function tests, it is often diagnosed clinically by a physician based on patient history and examination [1].

For those who meet the eligibility criteria, we anticipate enrolling 195 participants to retain 170 (87.2%) participants with complete data at 8 weeks, based on a 13% attrition rate observed in our previous longitudinal studies in which follow-up was more than a year. We will strive for a sample in which 95% participants have African descent and approximately 50% are women.

Adaptive Mobile Health Intervention for Adolescents with Asthma: Iterative User-Centered Development
Asthma is a leading cause of emergency department visits, missed school days, and healthcare expenditures, making it a significant public health concern [2,3]. However, when asked if they had downloaded a m Health app, 156 parents (85.2%) reported they had not; additionally, only 29.6% (8/27) of participants who had downloaded a m Health app reported that they downloaded the app on their child’s cell phone.
When asked to rate how much of a problem physical activity was for their child, 70 of 183 (38.3%) parents reported it was little to a lot of a problem; 90 of 183 (49.2%) parents reported diet was a little to a lot of a problem for their child.
