In addition, within-case effect size measurements will be calculated using Tau-U [72] and between-case effect sizes will be determined using hierarchical linear regression models to account for the serial dependency of data [73]. A randomization test will be applied to test differences in means for the baseline versus treatment, and baseline versus follow-up periods, respectively [74].

Internet-Delivered Therapy for Parents With Health Anxiety by Proxy: Protocol for a Single-Case Experimental Design Study

Parker et al [65] recommend using the nonoverlap method Tau-U for SCED studies. Tau-U is particularly good if data show a baseline trend [65,66]. In addition, the effect sizes will be summarized across all 5 participants by calculating common descriptive statistics (median and range). The secondary outcome measures will be analyzed using descriptive statistics because data from only 5 participants will be included. The recruitment of parents began in June 2022.

Charlotte Johnston gave permission and approval for the PSOC to be translated for the purpose of the present study (see Multimedia Appendix 4) according to international guidelines for the translation of questionnaires [47]. The Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) [39] is a brief behavioral five factor instrument developed to assess emotional and behavioral problems in children. The SDQ consists of 25 questions scored on a 3 point Likert scale (“not true”, “somewhat true”, “certainly true”).
