Frequent and prolonged school absenteeism due to either unexcused or excused absences can have a significant impact on a student’s life, for example leading to stagnation of a student’s (learning) development, a lower education level, and even school dropout [7-10]. In the Netherlands, 2% of students attending secondary or vocational schools (12-23 years old) drop out prematurely, a number that is slowly increasing [5,6,11].
