Mohr warns against external rewards, such as money, which may undermine intrinsic motivation and limit long-term success. In contrast, verbal rewards such as positive feedback are encouraged as a means to enhance intrinsic motivation. The supportive accountability model also considers mimicking the communication style of users in content, tense, and tone, known as paralinguistic mirroring, as useful for increasing comfort and trust between users and coaches.
