Helminthiases, or infections caused by parasitic worms, are a major global health concern [1]. Communities impacted by poverty and located in tropical regions, such as the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB; a region including Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic [Lao PDR], and northeast Thailand) are particularly vulnerable to such infections.

A nationwide survey performed in 2001 and reported in 2005 found that the STH prevalence among schoolchildren was as high as 67% [33]. A subsequent study in 2006 showed a prevalence of 54% for at least one type of STH infection and a prevalence of 23.1% for heavy-intensity infections [34]. In a follow-up survey in 2009, a decrease in the overall prevalence (44.7%) and heavy-intensity STH infections (19.7%) among SAC (aged 6-12 years) was reported [35].
