Companionship and Sharing Create Social Connections of an Online Community-Based Intervention for Patients with Cancer Receiving Outpatient Care: Pilot Study

A 67-year-old male patient with lung cancer, with a history of depression, initially expressed reluctance to participate, as he did not wish to focus on his illness. However, despite his verbal refusal, his daily login rate averaged 51%, and he completed 7 meditation tasks. Although he refrained from direct interaction and preferred to remain anonymous, his continued active participation in the community was a notable observation.

A Machine Learning–Based Prognostication Model Enhances Prediction of Early Hepatic Encephalopathy in Patients With Noncancer-Related Cirrhosis: Multicenter Longitudinal Cohort Study in Taiwan

The median age was slightly older in the HE group compared to the non-HE group (median 55, IQR 46-65 vs median 54, IQR 44-66 years; P=.04). There were no significant differences in sex or HCV infection between the groups. Specifically, 845 of 1187 (71.2%) patients in the HE group and 3227 of 4691 (68.8%) in the non-HE group were male, 342 of 1187 (28.8%) patients in the HE group and 1464 of 4691 (31.2%) in the non-HE group were female (P=.11).

Specifically, caregivers reported that KINDER helped them reframe their interactions with the care recipient, enabling them to better understand their behaviors and respond more appropriately: So, really the KINDER program just really opened my eyes to the fact that I wasn’t seeing him as he is today. I was reacting to him from old historical references instead of what’s happening present day right here now.
