The PANSS is a widely used and valid instrument for the assessment of symptom severity in schizophrenia; test-retest reliability for the total score and subscales is reported as 0.77‐0.89 [27,27].

Duplicate studies were excluded using the R package ASYSD (R Foundation for Statistical Computing), an automated deduplication tool [34], which was followed by manual deduplication in End Note (version X20.0.3; Clarivate Analytics). The full search strategy used for each database is detailed in Multimedia Appendix 2. Published journal articles were included or excluded according to the criteria outlined in Textbox 1.
